All Aboard The Paddle-wheeler!

If you're the type of person to enjoy nature in the wild, then a day or evening cruise on the Lane Cove paddle-wheeler could be for you.

A great treat for all ages but particularly to the over-55s, the 12km round trip cruise takes place on board an authentic paddle-wheeler.

The paddle-wheeler is reminiscent of the American showboat-style of craft.

Whilst the American boats plied the Mississippi catering to the gambling trade, the Australian version is rather more sedate although bingo games introduced 12 months ago as part of a Beef and Bingo Cruise are popular.

The paddle-wheeler's owner Greg Gordon said the boat cruised through calm water and passengers sighted snake-neck turtles, many types of ducks, colourful birds, cormorants, herons, water dragons and many other forms of wildlife.

"A call of `shark' from the boat captain always has interesting results," he said.

"We do have many cruises with young people but older people find it so peaceful and quiet away from everyday problems and noise, gently cruising calm waters in a bright and attractive boat."

Mr Gordon runs one-hour scenic cruises on weekends and during school holidays which require no prior booking.

Just head for Lane Cove National Park, Sydney where all roads lead to the boat wharf.

However, the theme luncheon and night cruises operate on a group booking system for which bookings are essential.

"At night the river is magic with lights twinkling in the distance," he said.

"I would suggest that people in the Illawarra check with their coach companies for trip dates or if they prefer to drive themselves they should call to book and I will arrange for them to join a group."
